Session: Clearinghouse, Catalogues, Registries
This is a session of a GEOSS Architecture Workshop
A Presentation provided the topics for discussion for this session.
Results of the session are in this presentation.
The GEO Secretariat is defining an Establishment Process for the Portal, Clearinghouse and Registries.
Clearinghouse, Catalogues, Registy
A workflow for service registration, discovery and use was demonstrated in 2007.
Service Providers can register their services as part of the IOC at the GEOSS registry system.
GEOSS Clearinghouse Status
Several Candidates for the GEOSS Clearinghouse were tested against several distributed catalogues.
The status of the this development is reported in the Core Architecture Implementation Report The report captures a work in progress. The report provides descriptions of the implementations that have been achieved to date as well providing recommendations on how the implementations should continue.
Workshop Session
During the workshop, a recap of the Clearinghouse development, testing and recommendations will be reviewed. Plans for the next phase of clearinghouse development will be developed in an interactive fashion.

Doug Nebert has provided a position paper titled: "GEOSS: A Global SDI Framework "
Abstract of the paper: GEOSS is connecting existing data collections, sensors, and services with end-users. This approach adopts many of the same standards and protocols that are employed for spatial data infrastructures, and in so doing, expands the participation of Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI) to include more remotely-sensed data and real-time environmental measurements based on terrestrial sensors. This paper reviews the current activities and progress on GEOSS deployment and the issues of adopting common SDI standards in support of GEO goals.
